Sharqiya Sands boasts breathtaking, panoramic views, especially during the golden hours of sunrise. Experiencing this magnificent landscape from a gently soaring hot air balloon is undeniably the most spectacular way to discover the true, untouched beauty of the desert.
We meticulously schedule our balloon flights every morning to perfectly coincide with the break of dawn, ensuring you witness the most spectacular desert sunrise.
All flights are strictly subject to meteorological limitations. With your safety as our absolute priority, our highly experienced pilots make the final decision regarding whether a flight can safely proceed based on real-time weather data.
In the rare event that your flight is canceled due to unfavorable weather conditions, you have the flexibility to either reschedule your adventure for the next available morning (subject to availability) or receive a prompt, 100% refund.
At Royal Balloon – Oman, the safety and enjoyment of our guests are paramount. For this reason, we unfortunately cannot accept children under the age of 6. The height of our traditional wicker baskets restricts visibility for younger children, preventing them from fully enjoying the panoramic tour.
The science of ballooning is fascinating yet simple. A powerful gas burner is used to heat the air inside the balloon’s envelope to approximately 100°C (212°F). Because hot air is lighter and less dense than the surrounding cool air, this heat causes the balloon to gently rise. To descend, the pilot simply allows the air inside to cool down or carefully releases some of the hot air.
Hot air balloons require highly stable winds to operate safely and effectively. The calm hours immediately following sunrise provide the most predictable wind conditions. Because balloons travel organically with the air currents, weather is the most critical factor in ensuring a safe and majestic flight.
A hot air balloon consists of three primary parts:
The envelope is crafted from tightly woven nylon or polyester—highly durable materials similar to those used in parachutes. It is specially coated to ensure it remains completely airtight. The weight of the basket is safely supported by high-strength steel or Kevlar cables connected to vertical load tapes.
Wicker is historically chosen for its incredible strength-to-weight ratio and natural flexibility, which beautifully absorbs the impact of landing. Our baskets are meticulously woven around a sturdy aluminum or steel frame, with the top rims elegantly padded and covered in premium suede or leather for your utmost comfort and safety.
The preparation is a spectacle in itself! We begin by laying the massive envelope out on the ground. Once the burners and basket are securely attached, an engine-driven fan fills the envelope with cold air. When it is partially inflated, the pilot ignites the burners to heat the air inside, causing the envelope to gracefully rise above the basket until it has enough lift to take flight.
Our burners are fueled by high-grade Propane or LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), similar to what you might use for an outdoor grill (butane can also be utilized). The burners are not kept on continuously; our master pilots skillfully use them in short bursts to maintain the perfect temperature and altitude throughout your journey.
Comfort is key! We recommend dressing as you would for a pleasant morning walk. A light jacket is advisable for the crisp pre-dawn air. Please wear flat, comfortable shoes, and opt for clothing made of natural fibers like cotton. Taller guests may also appreciate wearing a hat to shield against the radiant heat from the burners.
Absolutely! A hot air balloon provides the ultimate, unobstructed platform for breathtaking photography and videography. You will want to capture every moment. We simply recommend bringing a soft protective case to safely stow your camera during the landing phase of the flight.
From the moment we greet you to our final farewell, your entire Royal Balloon adventure lasts approximately 2 hours. This includes:
Note: Our balloons always carry enough fuel for at least two hours of flight time, plus a 30-minute reserve for maximum safety.
Our expert ground crew remains in constant radio communication with the pilot throughout the entire flight, allowing them to track your location and prepare for a seamless landing and recovery.
Many guests who typically fear heights find that ballooning is surprisingly peaceful and entirely different from standing on a high building or ladder. Because you are moving gently with the wind, there is no sensation of wind blowing against you, and you do not experience the typical feeling of vertigo. The basket remains perfectly steady without rocking or swaying, allowing you to relax and watch the earth unfold beautifully beneath you.
Not at all. The turbulence that typically causes motion sickness on an airplane is completely absent in a hot air balloon. The flight is so incredibly smooth and gentle that it is almost impossible to describe until you experience it yourself.
Hot air ballooning in Oman is strictly regulated by the Civil Aviation Authority of Oman. We proudly adhere to the exact same rigorous safety and operational regulations that apply to commercial airplanes.
Like all premium aircraft, balloons have a lifespan. With meticulous care and regular maintenance, a balloon envelope typically lasts for about 1,000 flying hours, which translates to roughly 4 to 5 years of elite operation depending on the frequency of flights.
Our pilots utilize state-of-the-art aviation instruments to ensure a perfectly safe and calculated flight. These typically include an altimeter to precisely measure altitude, a variometer to track the exact rate of ascent or descent, and specialized temperature gauges to carefully monitor the heat within the envelope.
